Todd Gurley has tons of room to improve

So it wasn’t an awful season debut for the Rams running back, but let’s not act like he blew the barn doors down. On 19 carries, Gurley ran for just 40 yards and didn’t contribute anything else to the running game.

It was okay though, because there were other ways that the Rams were able to stifle the Colts, but that might not always be the case. In a game where Los Angeles is playing a tougher opponent, they are going to need him to be much more productive.

Also, his longest run of the game was only 12 yards. In order to be more effective, the Rams will also need to see longer runs from Gurley that sway the game in their favor.

Gurley did have an effect on the passing attack of Los Angeles despite not making as much noise on the ground. Through the air, Gurley had the third most receiving yards in the game (56) and did so on just five targets.

Jared Goff is going to need all of the weapons he can get and that the team can muster and Gurley absolutely needs to be one of them. It was a great first win for the team, but moving forward they’ll need much more from their go-to running back.

He knows what he has to do to continue making a difference, so it shouldn’t be an issue now that the season is officially underway.
