Jared Goff was efficient and finally looked like top pick

While it might’ve just been a flash and may not translate to the rest of the season, what the Rams got out of Jared Goff in Week 1 went well if you were one of those expecting more from the former first overall pick.

Goff threw the ball just shy of 30 times, connecting for 21 of 29 passes and garnering 306 yards through the air. It was refreshing to see that under a new head coach, it didn’t seem like Goff was afraid to get stuff done on offense.

That was a concern coming out of Cal last season, and Jeff Fisher ultimately made that call to wait until later in the season to let the organization’s top 2016 draft pick see the field. McVay has demonstrated a clear trust in Goff to run the offense, and the result is a much better looking quarterback.

Instead of playing with any of the jitters that might come into play with other quarterbacks in his position, Goff found a way to rise above and that says a lot about the immediate future of the team. Los Angeles needs him to be the kind of guy that demonstrates excellence every game and without any major flukes in his production.

One area that Goff can improve on moving forward is his ability to get in the end zone, as he did so just one time. However, a major plus for both the Rams and their quarterback is that he was without an interception.

Now we’ll have to wait and see until the Rams play a tougher defense to have a better gauge on Goff. But you can’t complain with his numbers after just one game. Especially given that it came under a third head coach.
