Of all the decisions that the Lakers have made this off-season, this one might be the most surprising.

Instead of releasing a Nike jersey line with a sponsor originally, the Lakers were one of the teams that hadn’t signed a contract with a sponsor just yet. It’s been posted on the team’s official social media account that Wish will be the new sponsor for their jerseys in the upcoming season.

While there’s nothing wrong with them making their own personal decision, one has to wonder why they would pick Wish when there’s several other better-fitting sponsors that could’ve taken their place.

It’s hard to imagine that this is the point in the NBA where all teams will have a patch on their jerseys, even the classic Lakers look. Cleveland and Golden State will be rocking Goodyear and Rakuten, respectively. While the biggest rival to Los Angeles in the Celtics will be going with General Electric.

If we’re all being honest, it’s hard to see anybody put a sponsor on such an iconic look. It is arguably the best jersey in sports, let alone basketball, and now fans are going to have to deal with an annoying sponsor patch.

What’s shocking about the whole ordeal is that the Lakers could’ve picked a more iconic brand besides an online retail app. No specifics have been released as to how long this partnership will go, but it already has the feeling that the majority of fans won’t like the patch.

It shouldn’t change your support for the team, though, as that won’t directly affect their play on the court. In fact, the new Nike designs are in all likelihood more comfortable than previous editions of uniforms, even last year’s.

This is a huge win for Wish, though, as they’ll now be featured on the legendary purple and gold and then some.
