Dodgers: Five players on the bubble for the postseason roster
By Jason Reed
UT Enrique Hernandez
Enrique Hernandez is one of the most interesting members of the Los Angeles Dodgers. All the ladies seem to love him and he is easily the most vibrant personality in the locker room. While Hernandez has had his fair share of struggles this season, the super utility, rally banana supporter definitely makes his case for the postseason roster.
The thing with Hernandez is he is an all or nothing player. Hernandez will either slug at least one home run and put together an amazing game or he will go 0-4 with three strikeouts. When he is hot, Hernandez has one of the best bats on the Los Angeles Dodgers. The only problem is, of course, that he cannot maintain a hot bat.
However, ultimately, it will be his flexibility that allows him to make the roster. While the likes of Bellinger, Logan Forsythe, Chris Taylor, Chase Utley and Chris Taylor have all shown flexibility, Hernandez brings a tool in the Dodgers arsenal that they cannot miss out on.
Outside of Chris Taylor, the Dodgers outfield is primarily left-handed heavy. Sure, they also have Yasiel Puig, but he is batting .177 against southpaws this season. Even with Bellinger in the mix in the outfield, that is just another left-handed hitting bat.
Hernandez is the only real right-handed hitting bench player on the Dodgers. Austin Barnes is too, yes, but he also is hitting right-handers far better than their counterparts. Quite frankly, the Dodgers need a right-handed bat to come in against left-handed relievers in big situations and that bat belongs to Hernandez.
Verdict: Makes postseason roster
