Los Angeles Lakers: Top 10 point guards in franchise history
By Jason Reed
5. Derek Fisher
The argument with Derrick Fisher has to have some sort of mention of rings. While Fisher never was the guy in Los Angeles, he was there for all five of the Lakers championship wins in the 2000s even after leaving the organization for three seasons in between. While the Lakers may have been able to win the titles with any average point guard, Fisher gets the honors of going down as one of the best to do it.
Fisher is just one of 26 men to win five NBA Championships in their career and is one of just seven point guards to ever accomplish the feat. Besides the five NBA championships, Fisher did not bring in any other accolades during his 20-year career. However, any present day Laker fan certainly loves Fisher and all he gave to the Lakers organization.
During his 13 years as a Laker, Fisher averaged 7.9 points, 2.9 assists and 1.1 rebounds per game. Again, those numbers are not that great at all, but in his prime, Fisher was able to drop around 12 points per game. Playing alongside Kobe Bryant, that is all Fisher could really do due to the insane shooting frequency of Bryant.
Although Fisher may be listed as the fifth best point guard on this list, he certainly is not the fourth most talented. There are at least two guys behind Fisher that were arguably more talented. However, Fisher has the resume and the longevity that others on this list could not replicate.
Granted, I probably have some bias because Fisher was part of every Lakers championship team in my life, he certainly does have the resume to be the fifth best point guard in Lakers history, and likely would be higher up in most other franchises.
