Los Angeles Rams: Three keys to defeat the Seahawks in week five
By Jason Reed
1. Expose Seattle’s offensive line early
Despite heading into week four with a 2-2 record, the Seattle Seahawks are one of the most talented teams in the NFL. The Legion of Boom is still shutting down opposing pass offenses, and Russell Wilson is still doing Russell Wilson like things. However, what holds the Seahawks back is their gaping talent hole in the offensive line.
The Seattle Seahawks have pieced an offensive line together that is not giving Russell Wilson the time or space he needs. Wilson has been sacked ten times this season, which is the 14th most in the NFL. However, Wilson is constantly pressured by opposing defenses and saves drives with his mobility and his throw on the run skills.
If Seattle were to have an immobile quarterback under center, such as the sack leading Carson Palmer, the team would be in much more trouble. Quite frankly, Wilson is saving the Seattle offense from being one of the worst in the league.
Plus, the Seahawks are battling key injuries in the trenches. Perhaps the best member of the offensive line, George Fant, is out for the season with a knee injury. On top of that, his replacement, Rees Odhiambo may have suffered a cardiac contusion.
With a shaky secondary, the Rams need to be firing on all cylinders up front to pressure Russell Wilson, make him uncomfortable and also stop the run game. With a defense led by Aaron Donald and Alec Ogletree, the Rams should be able to expose Seattle’s O-line early.
