4. 2006 NLDS One Double, Two Outs

During that massive dry spell against the Mighty New York Mets in the 2006 NLDS, the Dodgers found themselves as the Wild Card team. In the eyes of many, the 97 win Mets were supposed to dispatch the Dodgers with ease.

Pitching injuries meant the Mets had to use rookie John Maine as an emergency starter for Game 1. This gave the Dodgers a chance to steal a win on the road.

In the second inning, the Dodgers were threatening with Jeff Kent on 1st and J.D. Drew on 2nd base with catcher Russell Martin at the plate without a single out.

Martin hit a line drive to the right-field wall that should have scored Kent and Drew, except the slow-footed Kent misread the ball and did not run until after the ball hit the wall. With Drew on husband heels, both runners rounded third no more than ten feet apart.

A strong relay to catcher Paul Lo Duca nailed Kent at the plate, the alert Lo Duca also tagged out Drew for an improbable double play. The series was never close after that and the Dodgers were swept in the series.
