Lakers: Four steps to win a title by the 2020 season

2. Sign Paul George in 2018
Whether it is Paul George himself, or someone such as LeBron James, multiple superstars have been tied to the Lakers in the 2018 offseason. Why else would the team be looking to free up as much cap space as possible unless they had some sort of master plan? Magic is a genius and I guarantee Paul George is his ace up his sleeve.
Now, the Lakers were fined $500,000 in fees after the Pacers launched a tampering investigation around George. The Lakers’ showed interest in George, which according to the Pacers, drove down his trade value. George does have a player option after this season, so teams did not want to overpay if he was just going to walk.
As silly as it sounds, it seems pretty true. For George, Indiana received the massive contract of Victor Oladipo alongside young power forward Domantis Sabonis. Not the greatest deal.
Regardless, the interest certainly is there still for George. George is exactly the superstar the Lakers need to bring in. Playing in a small market his entire career, George could blossom into one of the biggest stars in the NBA in LA.
He is not a vacuum for the ball like Russell Westbrook or Chris Paul, yet he can still score with the best of them. George is still arguably coming into his prime, and at only 27, he fits the young narrative of this team perfectly.
Once again, Paul George is the perfect free agent signing for the Lakers. However, bringing him in does have a domino effect elsewhere…
