Position-less style of play would absolutely benefit Brandon Ingram

Brad Stevens is without question of the more respected coaches in the entire league. Not only has the Celtics head coach found success as a collegiate leader at Butler, but as the leader in Boston, Stevens entered the playoffs as the top team in the Eastern Conference a year ago.

Now with a new look team, Stevens’ philosophy and coaching style might be what saves Brandon Ingram. In Los Angeles, the expectations of being big and power while being a scoring leader isn’t something he’s been able to live up to.

However, as a piece from Bleacher Report wrote at the time, Stevens doesn’t want to hold the five position standard. Instead, he gave his take on a three-position system.

Per B/R:

"“I don’t have the five positions anymore,” Celtics coach Brad Stevens said, per Kareem Copeland of the Associated Press. “It may be as simple as three positions now, where you’re either a ball-handler, a wing or a big."

For Ingram, a fix really could be that simple. We’ve seen Jaylen Brown be able to find a groove with the Celtics, while the team also made major changes to get players they wanted like Kyrie Irving and Gordon Hayward.

The Kyle Kuzma explosion remains the reason that the Lakers would be okay with this move. They can find other ways to work Jaylen Brown into their pace and style of play, while Ingram would get the chance to boost his career elsewhere.

This would mean Ingram would get the chance to have some time at shooting guard while also working on getting bigger, stronger, and more versatile overall. The expectation seems to be the same way with former Lakers point guard D’Angelo Russell, who will now get to craft his game in an entirely new environment in what could bring him to a breakout season.
