Los Angeles Dodgers: Greatest World Series moments

3. Sandy K’s 15 Yankees
The 1963 World Series was deja vu of sorts as the Dodgers took on the New York Yankees the difference though was that his series was now bi-coastal as the Dodgers moved to Los Angeles in 1958. Though the places had changed there was still some familiar faces on both teams.
The Yankees were still formidable and still baseball’s most popular player in Mickey Mantle in their lineup. Veteran left-hander Whitey Ford faced off against Brooklyn born Sandy Koufax in game one. What was billed as a battle of two left-handers turned into the coming out party for Koufax.
While his teammates provided runs Koufax kept the Yankee sluggers at bay. Koufax started off the game by striking out five of the first six Yankees he faced. The Yankees would touch Koufax for two runs in the eighth inning for two runs but it was too late.
Koufax set a new World Series record by striking out 15 Yankees on the way to a 5-2 opening game one win. Koufax set the tone for the Dodgers four game sweep as Dodgers starters went 35.1 innings striking out 36 batters and allowing just four runs.
