Los Angeles Dodgers: Greatest World Series moments

The 1988 World Series was supposed to be the coronation of the 104 win Oakland Athletics, all year the A’s had slugged their way to the top lead by the “Bash Brothers” Jose Canseco and Mark McGwire. Years before steroid allegations tainted their reputations Canseco and McGwire ushered in a new era of home runs and bashing forearms.
The Dodgers didn’t have a team full of bashers like the A’s but they did have a “Bulldog,” off the mound Orel Hershiser with his skinny frame and glasses looked more like a librarian than a staff ace. On the mound, though, Hershiser growled and pitched like his life depended on it giving no quarter to major league batters.
In 1988 Hershiser showed the world who was boss on the mound setting a record with 59 scoreless innings streak that has yet to be broken. In the NLCS Hershiser took out the New York Mets saving a game and shutting them out in the winner take all game seven.
In the World Series the A’s found out what the Mets had been dealing with as Hershiser threw two complete game wins holding the A’s to just two runs while striking out 17 and giving up just seven hits. Hershiser won the World Series MVP thanks to his effort.
Hershiser was so good in the series his three hits was more than Canseco and McGwire who combined to get just two hits going 2-36. The Bash Brothers got bit by the Bulldog and they never recovered.
