The latest Lakers rumors about how they can make the perfect pitch to Klay Thompson when he becomes a free agent in 2019.

It’s no question that the Los Angeles Lakers will be at the top of the list in terms of teams to watch for when it comes to making a splash with big name free agents over the next few seasons. Magic Johnson has promised a brighter future in Los Angeles than in the last few years, but that won’t come overnight.

The Lakers decided to draft Lonzo Ball as D’Angelo Russell’s replacement at point guard, and have seen promising things from second year forward Brandon Ingram and rookie Kyle Kuzma, while also being rumored to have tested the trade market for Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson.

So what exactly does the future hold for the purple and gold?

Well, here’s the thing. They might be good at most positions when it comes to a starting lineup, but the holes that they do have are consequential if not resolved sooner than later. Those two gaps right now are a dependable shooting guard as well as a quality big man.

They’ve had neither of those in recent memory, and probably won’t get a quality starter for one of those two positions in the coming summer. However, Klay Thompson will be available on the free market to hear offers in 2019.

At that point in time, the Lakers will have enough to pitch to Klay Thompson in a legitimate way. Here’s the pitch, broken down into three parts with explanations along the way.
