We have already alluded to this trade in another article but it is too great to leave out of this slideshow. Chris Archer has been somewhat tied to the Los Angeles Dodgers over the last two seasons of his career. To be fair, most of this is simply speculation from fans who are attempting to draw conclusions.

However, there is a familiar path for the Rays and Dodgers to do business. The two sides are no strangers to trades as the two teams swapped Logan Forsythe and Jose De Leon. Of course, it helps that the Dodgers current President of Baseball Operations formerly shared the same role for the Tampa Bay Rays.

It also helps that Archer is exactly what the Los Angeles Dodgers need. Los Angeles needs a solid right-handed pitcher that can slot in behind Clayton Kershaw next season. Not only does Archer provide that for the Dodgers, he is also young, fairly cheap and under team control for five more seasons.

All of these positives would lead to the Dodgers needing a pretty big return; that is exactly what the Rays are getting in this trade. Sure, they do have to eat Kemp’s salary, but they can do that with one of the lowest payrolls in the league.

Alex Verdugo is the Dodgers second-best prospect and 23rd best in baseball while Alvarez is the third best on the Dodgers and 46th best in baseball.
