Dodgers: Three big moves to make after acquiring Matt Kemp
By Jason Reed
This would be a blockbuster, wouldn’t it? The Pittsburgh Pirates would be sending a former NL MVP in Andrew McCutchen along with one of the most promising arms in the league in Gerrit Cole. The Dodgers would be sending a (should be) former NL MVP in Matt Kemp, three elite prospects and international signing money for the Pirates.
Yes, it is a lot for the Dodgers to send to the Pirates. However, it is more than worth it. This would be the best trade the Dodgers’ front office has pulled off in recent memory and would instantly cement them as the favorites to win the 2018 World Series.
This essentially fills the only two needs that the Los Angeles Dodgers have; that arm behind Kershaw and a left fielder. Cole is insanely talented with immense promise and behind Clayton Kershaw could finish the season under a 3.00 ERA. McCutchen, although he is not the same McCutchen of five years ago, can still produce at a high level.
The Pirates should be intrigued to make this deal as Cole’s name has already been in trade talks and McCutchen only has one year left under contract. It may be time for the Pirates to move onto a new chapter in the organization, they can do that with Alvarez, Diaz and White.
Alvarez is an ace in the making while White enjoyed a breakout season that creates a clear path as a rotation arm in the MLB. Diaz is the Dodgers third best positioned player prospect. This is more than enough for the Pirates to turn their fortune around.
