5. 2017 Rose Bowl
The USC Trojans returned to the Rose Bowl game for the first time since 2009 and made it a memorable one for their fans.
After dealing with sanctions, controversial coaching changes, and changes at the top of the athletic department a return to the New Year’s tradition is just what the football program needed.
Down 14 points going into the fourth quarter against the Penn State Nittany Lions, freshman quarterback Sam Darnold put the Trojans on his back as led the Trojans to the comeback win including a game-winning drive that led to a field goal with no time left on the clock.
Darnold set a record for the Rose Bowl game by throwing five touchdowns and 473 total yards for the game. By winning the game Darnold and the Trojans were back to national prominence in the college football world.
