Offensive MVP: Philip Rivers

  • 4515 yards, 62.6% completion, 28 touchdowns, 10 interceptions

Philip Rivers is the heart and soul of this organization and it is only fitting that he earns the team’s 2017 offensive MVP award. Quite frankly, Rivers arguably has deserved the award every single year since 2009. Rivers is the best quarterback in Chargers’ history, may go down in the top 10 all-time and it challenging LaDainian Tomlinson as the best Charger of all time.

The seven-time Pro Bowler did not slow down at all in his 14th season in the league. The 36-year-old surpassed 4500 passing yards for the fourth time in his career, continued his 26 touchdown streak to ten years flat and threw the least amount of interceptions since 2009. Perhaps Rivers discovered the Fountain of Youth in the move to LA.

Rivers was the entire reason why the Chargers were able to rebound from a 0-4 start to a 9-7 finish. While the defense did get better and that had a hand in it as well, Rivers led the offensive with some insane weeks down the stretch. Rivers threw for 300 or more yards from week 11 to week 13, finishing the season with a 387-yard performance and 30-10 victory over the Raiders.

It is without a doubt that Rivers is the heart and soul of this organization and is the entire reason why stars are made at receiver on the Chargers. Nobody directs the offense pre-snap like Rivers does with so much emphasis and coordination. Rivers nearly always finds the perfect look and is not scared to seam a ball in a tight window.

While there were some other standouts on offense, they all relied on the solid play of the captain himself, Philip Rivers.
