How the Los Angeles Dodgers lineup should look in 2018
By Jason Reed
7. Logan Forsythe — 2B
Logan Forsythe may need another platoon at second base down the line, later in the season. Forsythe infamously hits southpaws pretty good but cannot hit right-handers for the life of him. However, there is no suitable everyday platoon partner as early as Opening Day, thus, Forsythe should get the opportunity to prove himself against both arms on the mound.
The splits between left-handed and right-handed pitching are staggering for Forsythe. Against southpaws, Forsythe hit a respectable .290 in 153 total plate appearances. In 286 plate appearances against right-handers, Forsythe hit a measly .190 with way more strikeouts (72) than hits (45).
The importance of learning to hit right-handed pitching is more than evident from Forsythe’s production. It is obvious that he is going to see much more plate appearances against right-handed pitching than left-handed pitching, even with a platoon. Thus, the Dodgers are going to need Forsythe to fill that massive hole in his game.
He is at least showing progress, though. Forsythe was solid for the Los Angeles Dodgers in the postseason and turned in an NLDS game two performance that pushed the Dodgers to sweep the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Forsythe is a great fielder, a great teammate and helps the Dodgers in their quest to hit southpaws. Improve against right-handers and Forsythe has all-star potential.
