The Los Angeles Rams do not have a second-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft because of the same trade that landed the team Sammy Watkins last season. Thus, the Rams must wait until the third round, with 64 picks between their first two selections.

However, that is not a massive hinderance as the Los Angeles Rams picked up a solid defensive end in the third round in Clemson sophomore Clelin Ferrell.

Ferrell has a fantastic sophomore season that instantly raised his draft stock and made him one of the most intriguing defensive ends in the entire draft. In 14 games played, the defensive end made 66 total tackles, 18 tackles for loss and nine and a half sacks.

Of course, the Rams are playing fire as they may lose defensive tackle Aaron Donald to free agency. Even if they don’t though, the Rams are one missing link of the defensive line from creating something very special. Ferrell, who has proven that he can get to the passer, could give the Rams a pass rush similar to their cross-town foes, the Los Angeles Chargers.

Now, Ferrell falling to the third round is a bit of a stretch to begin with. Different big boards have him vastly different; DraftWire has him as a potential first rounder.

We will find out exactly how NFL teams evaluate Ferrell when the 2018 NFL Draft comes. If he does fall to the 87th overall selection, though, the Los Angeles Rams should not hesitate to pick him up.
