NFL Draft 2018: Comparing Josh Rosen to Baker Mayfield
By Keith Rivas
Their attitudes are the biggest red flag for both of them
Alright, now that numbers are taken care of, there’s no denying that they both have a diva type of feel to them. Baker Mayfield is more of your rough go-getter type of player who loves to rub it in your face, but the concern for an Eli Manning complex is what some might say they can see with Rosen.
Part of that is getting to go to one of the best universities in the world and all that comes with it — the other part of it is just not knowing your place until the situation hits you like a two by four. Wherever these two end up, their personas are going to be what leaves a lasting impression with their coaches, fan base, and ultimately their teammates.
The hope here is that neither sees their career seriously altered by the potential for maturity and attitude issues, but teams already know that dealing with stuff like that is just part of the growing pains. But I am not sure the football world is ready for both of them at the same time, so that’s what will be most interesting to watch from these two at the next level.
What could be the real telling factor is if Rosen or Mayfield are selected first overall by the Cleveland Browns; a team notorious for killing the careers of a plethora of quarterbacks.
If the attitude that they bring to the table ends up getting the best of them or gets them caught up in unnecessary drama early in their careers, it really wouldn’t be all that surprising. However, both have some great talent that can really make a team have a huge turnaround in the top ten by the time next season rolls around.
