Clippers Rumors: Three more realistic trades for Blake Griffin
By Jason Reed
Let’s be real, the reported Blake Griffin for Karl-Anthony Towns swap was unrealistic. However, after those Clippers rumors, what realistic trades are there?
For the entire season, speculation around trading DeAndre Jordan has been surrounding the Los Angeles Clippers. However, the most recent Clippers Rumors indicate a different narrative. Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders reported that the Clippers offered the Minnesota Timberwolves a Blake Griffin for Karl-Anthony Towns swap (h/t Yahoo Sports).
This was shocking news for many as Griffin has been regarded as the face of the Los Angeles Clippers. After Chris Paul was traded to the Houston Rockets, many expected Griffin to walk away from LA. Instead, the superstar power forward inked a five-year extension with the organization that drafted him.
Just half a year later that same organization attempted to trade Griffin. For the most part, though, a Towns for Griffin swap makes sense for the Clippers. Towns is much younger, is owed much less money and could give the team flexibility to deal DeAndre Jordan.
For the Timberwolves, though, this deal would not make sense. Towns is the center of a very talented young core that can do a lot of damage in Minnesota. Trading him for an injury prone forward without any significant playoff wins is risky, to say the least.
However, perhaps trading Griffin is on the Clippers to-do list to initiate a rebuild in LA. They are definitely not winning anything with him and perhaps the injuries finally convinced the Clippers to part ways. Thus, here are three more realistic trades for Blake Griffin.
