Clippers Rumors: Three more realistic trades for Blake Griffin
By Jason Reed
If the Clippers want to swap Blake Griffin for a young, dominant center, they are going to have to do so with a team that is not in title contention. Enter the Utah Jazz and Rudy Gobert. Gobert is perhaps the most menacing shot blocker in the entire league and is still only getting better. Thus, the Clippers can bring him in, replace DeAndre Jordan, and make another rebuilding move.
Gobert would undoubtedly become the face of the Clippers and would only get better as the years go on. The seven-foot-one center is averaged 14.0 points, 12.8 rebounds and 2.6 blocks per game last season. Gobert, like Griffin, also battles injuries that have resulted in him playing just 18 games this season.
This move makes sense for the Utah Jazz as they get a guy in Griffin that is locked down for several years that can entice future free agents. With Gordon Hayward gone, the Jazz have no true superstar to lure any other superstars in. Gobert is great and all, but he is not enough to convince someone of Paul George’s caliber to sign with the Jazz.
Gobert is under team control for three more seasons following this season. With this move, the Clippers can enter full tank mode and ensure a top draft pick. Bring in a guy like Luka Doncic or Marvin Bagley III and the Clippers would immediately have a more promising future.
