Clippers Rumors: Three more realistic trades for Blake Griffin
By Jason Reed
The Washington Wizards have always been that one piece away from having a realistic chance to dethrone the Cleveland Cavaliers and Boston Celtics as the elite teams in the East. Point guard John Wall signed an extension with Washington in the offseason that runs through 2023, making him the franchise player to build around in the future.
There is another star guard that the Wizards have locked up for several years; Bradley Beal. While Washington ultimately would want to bring in another piece alongside the star backcourt, Blake Griffin for Beal would be a fair trade-off.
The factor that makes this deal doable for the Wizards is Griffin’s contract. If he was on a one or two year deal this would just be shooting the Wizards in the foot. However, since he is locked down for four more seasons, the Wizards have comfort knowing they can now build around the duo of Wall and Griffin.
Throw in Lou Williams to replace Beal for this season and the Wizards are arguably much better than before. For the Clippers, they get a great shooting guard that could turn into a true superstar without the restriction of John Wall. As great as the duo is together, it is the Klay Thompson effect. Beal showed how good he can be when he had to take over the team when Wall was hurt.
Talent-wise this is a very fair deal that benefits both sides in different ways. If the Clippers really are so set on getting rid of Jordan, this is the swap that makes the most sense.
