Chargers 2018 NFL Mock Draft: Chargers pick up first-round QB
By Jason Reed
Back to the offensive side of the ball, in the third round of our 2018 NFL mock draft, we selected center James Daniels out of the University of Iowa. Although the Chargers offensive line is much better than it has been in the past, Philip Rivers could still use all of the help he can get and that starts at the center position.
Rookie Dan Feeney did a great job (besides that blocked field goal in week one) in transitioning to the NFL. The third round pick had several great weeks protecting Rivers and made the most of his third round selection. In 2018, the Chargers must repeat what they did with Feeney in the third round and select Daniels.
Realistically, center is the only immediate need in the Chargers’ offensive line. Feeney is great, veteran Russell Okung did good at left tackle and right guard Kenny Wiggins was good. Second round pick Forrest Lamp will be returning from injury to likely play right guard for the Chargers. Overall, the line looks to be extremely positive.
Throw in Daniels at the center position and Philip Rivers will have a very solid pocket to throw into next season. Daniels is the 35th best prospect in the draft, according to Todd McShay. Although him falling to the third round may seem unlikely, if he does, the Chargers must capitalize and select him.
