Lakers trade rumors: Eight targets to watch for at the trade deadline
By Jason Reed
PF Amir Johnson
Essentially, trading for Amir Johnson would have all the same effect as trading for Derrick Favors. The Lakers would be acquiring a solid power forward, on an expiring deal, and sending away a package based around Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson. These are two peas in a pod, it is up to the Lakers to decide what package is best for them.
The Philadelphia 76ers’ young core is barely scratching the surface of what they are capable of and are set to make the postseason for the first time since the 2011-2012 season. As the sixth seed in the weak Eastern Conference, the 76ers have a pretty good shot of making it past the regular season.
However, they need that one last stamp that cements their place. That comes with Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson, who fit their young narrative.
Randle is undoubtedly an upgrade from Johnson and would make the 76ers much better this season. Clarkson would be a huge addition to the bench and can take a bigger role at shooting guard after this year if J.J. Redick walks.
Plus, with Redick’s $23 million contract expiring after the year, the 76ers will have space to match an offer sheet thrown Randle’s way in the offseason. Thus, the 76ers get better for longer and the Lakers get the cap space they need to bring in superstars.
