Lakers trade rumors: Eight targets to watch for at the trade deadline
By Jason Reed
SG Lou Williams
Chances are that Lou Williams is going to get trading to the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Cavs desperately need talent to turn their season around and compete with the Celtics and Warriors. Williams would bring a much-needing scoring presence off of the bench, being a direct upgrade from the likes of Kyle Korver and Dwayne Wade.
It helps that the Clippers and Cavaliers have the perfect trade to make that benefits both sides. However, what a lot of people are overlooking, is that the Cavaliers don’t really need another scoring shooting guard. They have that. They need defense, something a DeAndre Jordan, not Lou Williams, can bring.
Thus, the Clippers need a new trade partner for Williams. Enter the Los Angeles Lakers, who traded Williams to the Houston Rockets last season to cement their tank. Williams, like almost everyone else on this list, is on an expiring deal and would help the Lakers next offseason.
Not only that, he would be an immediate upgrade from Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. The two LA teams are on two different ends of the spectrum; the Clippers should want to lose to get a great draft pick, the Lakers should want to win to get their guys experience. Thus, it may be best for Williams to go back to the Lakers’ locker room.
