Okay, this deal is definitely more one-sided than the previous deal. However, it is significantly favored on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ side as it accomplishes multiple things that will cement their return into the World Series. If the Dodgers’ front office somehow struck gold with this deal, Dodger fans around the world should be celebrating.

First and foremost, let’s break down what the Dodgers are giving up. The center of the package is, of course, Yasmani Grandal. Chicago would get a power-hitting bat to put people in the seats that they do not have to commit to long-term. Hyun-Jin Ryu has the same effect on his expiring deal.

The second notable piece is Joc Pederson. Pederson is key in this deal. Chicago is giving away an outfielder of their own, so in return, the Dodgers must send another young piece that keeps the future bright for Chicago.

Lastly, there is Matt Kemp. Los Angeles acquired Kemp in a deal with the Braves, swapping big contracts. Now, the Dodgers may be actively pursuing a deal for Kemp that opens space for Darvish.

In return, the Dodgers get James Shield and Avisail Garcia. Shields could serve as a bullpen arm for the Dodgers, and at the very worst, could be cut outright from LA. His big contract offsets Kemp, but is only one season while Kemp’s is two.

The key piece is Garcia. Garcia would act as the last icing in the Dodgers’ lineup. The right-handed hitting outfielder would instantly slot into left or center field, providingthe Dodgers’ help in hitting left-handed pitching.
