By Keith Rivas
With the Blake Griffin trade to Detroit official, it’s time to accept the new era for the Clippers in Los Angeles.
This was exactly the kind of move that the Los Angeles Clippers needed to pull off to send shockwaves through their system and fix whatever jinx has been haunting them the last few years. You could blame sometimes dysfunctional chemistry, Blake Griffin’s injury bug, or Chris Paul’s inability to get to the conference finals, but that’s officially behind them now no matter what.
And we owe them some kudos for finally taking action to help themselves.
As ESPN reports, Blake Griffin will be the big piece in a multi-player trade involving the LA Clippers and Detroit Pistons. Los Angeles will receive three players as a result of the blockbuster trade along with two draft picks.
Detroit will get Blake Griffin, Brice Johnson, and Willie Reed on their end of the deal.
This is a bargain for Detroit, who came out of nowhere to take Griffin from the Clippers, while it’s again a refresher moment for Los Angeles. With the Lakers on the up and up, trading away Blake Griffin might’ve been hard news for some fans to take in, but it was either make the deal now or wait for the playoffs and pretend to get a different result, If they were even going to qualify.
Specifically, Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic and a first and second round pick now belong to the Clippers.
There’s a lot to take in with this deal, obviously, but here’s a quick look at the pros, cons, and consequences of the Blake Griffin trade that nobody saw coming.
