Clippers trade rumors: What is next for DeAndre Jordan?
By Jason Reed
Trade to the Portland Trail Blazers
While this trade may not be as likely as the Cleveland Cavaliers acquiring DeAndre Jordan, this is a possibility that is more than doable. With Portland expressing interest in Jordan, this move may be a lot more likely than you may think.
According to Marc Stein of The New York Times, the Portland Trail Blazers are one of the teams that have attempted to engage in trade talks for DeAndre Jordan. Whether this culminated in actual trade talks is unsure; however, Portland certainly can use Jordan alongside their star backcourt of Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum.
The Trail Blazers have multiple avenues to go down with the Clippers as well. Portland’s best route is to try and send the rebuilding Clippers a large contract, padding it with draft picks and promising, unrealized, young talents.
For example, a trade following these guidelines would involve Evan Turner (two years, $36.4 million after 2017), alongside 2017 first round pick Zach Collins and a top-three protected first round pick in 2018.
Or, the Clippers could try and get greedy and somehow land Jusuf Nurkic. Nurkic is arguably as good if not slightly worse than Jordan, however, the sky is the limit. Los Angeles could try and intrigue Portland with Lou Williams, also agreeing to eat Turner’s contract.
Regardless, this is a possibility that at least holds some merit and could pick up steam. Now, let’s go for the dark horse.
