2. Bring in a veteran free agent cornerback

While the Los Angeles Rams’ defense was surprisingly decent last season, the secondary definiely has some spaces to fill and can reach that next level. A great secondary may just be the last missing puzzle piece that shoots the Rams’ into the NFL’s elite tier.

The Rams do have the NFL Draft to get depth in their secondary. Chances are that the Rams are going to draft a cornerback in the first round. With a pretty decent draft class at corner, the Rams can get a solid starting caliber corner in the first round. They cannot pass up on that opportunity.

However, the Rams should not stop there. Corner Trumaine Johnson was franchise tagged last season; with the Rams’ re-signing focus on Aaron Donald, Johnson may be able to find a better fit, and more money, elsewhere.

Enter a veteran cornerback, in particular, Malcolm Butler.

Butler would bring such a great dynamic to this Rams’ defense. A proven winner at the highest level, the experience alone that Butler would bring to LA can take them to that next level. Of course, his talent is up there with the best corners in the game.

Plus, it is not entirely inconceivable that the Butler could be out the door in New England. The writing is on the wall for the Patriots dynasty to end, Father Time will catch up to Brady. Butler, realizing this, could contend for another five seasons with this young Rams team and be the captain of the secondary.
