Los Angeles Rams: Two corners drafted in latest mock draft
By Jason Reed
Talk about a fantastic first round draft pick. The Los Angeles Rams defense surprised many last season and was capable of turning in quality performances. While a lot of that had to do with the high-powered offense, defensive coordinator Wade Phillips did a tremendous job with his guys.
The Los Angeles Rams’ linebacking core was a component to the defense’s success. Alec Ogletree and Mark Barron were great in the middle, Robert Quinn and Connor Barwin were also solid on the outside. However, with Barwin set to hit free agency, the Rams may be looking to find his replacement.
Enter Virginia Tech linebacker, Tremaine Edmunds. Edmunds is a freak athlete that undoubtedly will find success in the NFL. Even if the Rams did not need a linebacker, Edmunds would be way too good to pass up with the 23rd overall selection.
Chances are Edmunds may not even be available that long. David Kenyon of Bleacher Report has him going eighth to the Chicago Bears. According to Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, one regional NFC scout said of Edmunds:
"“They don’t come like him. I don’t think there has ever been a linebacker that has had his size and speed. You’re better off comping him with a basketball player.”"
I doubt he will fall this low in the draft. If he does, the Los Angeles Rams biggest mistake of the offseason would be to not draft him.
