The Los Angeles Rams second-round pick is in the Buffalo Bills’ hands following the Sammy Watkins deal last August. In that trade, the Rams also acquired a sixth-round pick (which we will see later) while also giving up cornerback E.J. Gaines.

Ironically, in the third round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Rams are selecting a cornerback. Heading into the offseason, cornerback should be one of the Rams’ primary focuses. The team could potentially lose Trumaine Johnson, as he was franchise tagged last year, leaving their secondary depleted.

Even with Johnson, the Rams must look to add depth in their secondary. The strong pass-rush, led by Aaron Donald, bailed the secondary out and made them look better than they really were. If the team wants to compete with the Eagles, Saints and Vikings in the NFC, summing up that secondary is pivotal.

The first step to that is by bringing in Central Florida cornerback Mike Hughes. Last season, Hughes intercepted four passes in 13 games, deflecting an additional 11.

While size may be an issue in the NFL, Hughes has the speed, athleticism and natural instincts to become a great man coverage cornerback in the NFL. The Rams do not need a superstar, they need pieces; Hughes would be a huge piece.
