Los Angeles Rams: Two corners drafted in latest mock draft
By Jason Reed
Again, everything we said about adding depth at cornerback applies to the Los Angeles Rams’ fourth-round selection. While the team could get away with adding just one corner in the draft, if Johnson indeed does walk away and the Rams cannot pick up any notable free agent replacements, two corners in the draft is the way to go.
Thus, in back-to-back rounds the Rams are selecting key cornerback pieces that should sum up their overall depth in the secondary. After picking up the fifth-ranked cornerback in the draft, according to Walter Football, the Rams should respond by picking up the seventh-ranked cornerback in JC Jackson.
Whereas Hughes has concerns around his size, those same concerns are not present with Jackson. At six-foot-one, with a projected 4.49 40-yard dash time, Jackson has the perfect blend of size and athleticism that can thrive in zone and man schemes.
Jackson’s talent should have him going as early as the second round and as late as the third round. However, past off-field issues may make teams hesitant to draft Jackson.
Back in 2015, while he was enrolled at Florida, Jackson was charged with “four felony counts in connection with a home invasion and robbery incident in Gainesville, Fla.”
Thus, Jackson’s immense potential may become overlooked by many NFL teams trying to avoid the off field headache. And while the Rams do not need a distraction on their team, Jackson seems to have lived and learned from his mistakes and could add a huge dynamic to the team.
