OF — Michael Hermosillo

If you are a casual fan of the Los Angeles Angels and have never heard of Michael Hermosillo, well, I do not blame you. Hermosillo is without any MLB experience under his belt and, at 23 years old, has not yet carved out a name for himself in the minor leagues. The Angels took Hermosillo in the 28th round of the 2013 MLB Draft, so to be considered for a roster spot is a huge accomplishment.

More from Los Angeles Angels

Hermosillo has been pretty good in the minor leagues. From Advanced-A ball all the way to AAA last season, Hermosillo had a combined .267 batting average with nine home runs, 44 RBIs and 35 stolen bases.

Baseball America ranks Hermosillo as the Angels’ tenth best prospect. While that may not be the biggest compliment, considering the Angels do not have a great farm, it is reflective of the expectations that Hermosillo has already proven.

If Hermosillo thrives during Spring Training, it is hard to deny him a roster spot as a utility outfielder as well as a pinch runner for guys like Albert Pujols in key situations. As of now, the Angels only have five outfielders on their roster, including Jefry Marte.

Although there is room for Hermosillo, the Angels are going to have to prioritize their roster spots. With Mike Trout, Kole Calhoun and Justin Upton all being very reliable, it may be hard to justify needing a second backup outfielder.

However, the team may look to use Marte in the infield as well, opening the door for Hermosillo to be the number one option off of the bench. It all banks on his performance during the Los Angeles Angels Spring Training.
