Bring in new Defensive Tackle:

Aside from kicker, the most glaring problem with last season’s Chargers team was the run defense. One of the major factors that contributed to the poor run defense, was the lack of a run stuffing presence on the interior of the defensive line. Upgrading this aspect of the roster will go a long way in improving the defense.

One of the team’s current defensive tackles, Corey Liuget, had his worst season as a pro this past year. Because of his poor play, his high salary, and the fact that they will likely draft his replacement, there is a high probability that Liuget will see himself cut during this offseason.

The team may elect to use their first round picks on one of the top defensive tackle prospects in the draft, assuming they don’t go quarterback with that pick. Among these prospects are Washington’s Vita Vea, Alabama’s Da’Ron Payne, and Michigan’s Maurice Hurst. Picking any of these players will make the Charger’s defense among the league’s elite.
