DJ Peters – CF

(MiLB Career) AVG: .302 G: 198 H: 231 OBP: .394 HR: 40

Like Smith, DJ Peters  is currently playing for the Tulsa Drillers, but has been invited to Spring Training. He may not make the majors this year, though I wouldn’t be surprised if he did, but the Dodgers have a lot to look forward to.

Of all the up and coming prospects, Peters reminds me of a combination of two current Dodgers; Cody Bellinger and Justin Turner.

Like Bellinger, Peters tends to hit the ball out of the park, a lot. He boasts a .302 average and a .548 SLG percentage. He is a slugger in every sense of the word, but there’s more.

The stats show if a player is a good hitter. They show the progression of a players abilities. With Peters, the “how” is just as interesting as the “how many.” He hit 27 home runs in 2017, and how he did it is comparable to Justin Turner.

Like Turner, Peters leads with a small step, or leg kick. Peters’ leg kick isn’t as noticable as Turner’s, but it’s the key to his swing. As his swing evolves, so will his average and his slugging percentage. He is capable of hitting 35+ homers in the major leagues, and he’s not too far off from the chance to do so.

Pay attention to DJ Peters during these coming weeks at Camelback Ranch. He’s undoubtedly close to the top of the list of potential Dodger superstars. Will he be this year’s Cody Bellinger? Maybe not. Will he be 2019 or 2020’s Cody Bellinger?

I think so.
