The Los Angeles Lakers have not been in a reasonable position to contend for several years. However, the seeds are planted for LA to take over the West.

At the start of the decade, the Los Angeles Lakers were on top of the world. Kobe Bryant, Pau Gasol and Andrew Bynum led the Lakers to consecutive NBA Championships in 2009 and 2010. The start of the decade prior the Lakers won three consecutive championships from 2000 to 2002.

Now, Magic Johnson and Rob Pelinka are setting the Lakers up to again start the next decade off strong. I would argue that by 2020 the Los Angeles Lakers will be in title contention, by the time 2025 rolls around, the Lakers will have at least won two more championships.

Playing in the tough Western Conference this may seem impossible. The Golden State Warriors are arguably the most talented team we have ever seen in NBA history. What team had two MVP’s, in their prime, on the same roster? It doesn’t stop there, they also have two more top-15 players in Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.

Although the Warriors are built for success, it obviously won’t last forever. Thus, instead of speculating who can beat the Warriors now — which really is only the Rockets — people are speculating who can take the reigns over in the future. The Boston Celtics, Minnesota Timberwolves and Milwaukee Bucks are all young and talented enough to do so.

However, it will not be any of those teams. It will be the Los Angeles Lakers. Don’t believe me? Here are three reasons why the Lakers are built to take over the West from the Warriors.
