Redrafting the Los Angeles Rams’ 2017 NFL Draft
By Jason Reed
Fourth Round:
-
Original pick (117 overall): Josh Reynolds, WR, Texas A&M
-
New pick: Mack Hollins, WR, North Carolina
Again, I am kind of contradicting myself by passing on Cooper Kupp in the third only to draft a receiver not as talented in the fourth round. However, the domino effect of the previous selections would lead to the Rams needed a tight end in the third round and Cupp likely falling lower in the third.
Thus, when making the fourth round pick, we are assuming that Cupp is not available. Plus, the type of receiver the Rams wanted in the fourth round was not Kupp; they wanted a big-bodied, vertical threat for Goff. That was Josh Reynolds, who caught just one touchdown in his rookie year.
One pick later, though, the Eagles picked Mack Hollins, who turned out to be a better vertical threat than Reynolds. Hollins is an inch taller than Reynolds and ran virtually the same 40-yard dash time (0.01 seconds slower). Plus, his special teams impact merits more value than Reynolds.

Original pick (125 overall): Samson Ebukam, LB, Eastern Washington
-
New Pick: Deatrich Wise Jr., DE, Arkansas
Deatrich Wise Jr. was pretty good for the New England Patriots in the limited time he was on the field. Despite only starting in three of the Patriots’ games, Wise recorded 26 total tackles in route to five sacks. Wise shows a lot of promise and could develop as one of the league’s best pass-rushers.
The Rams already have a solid pass-rush, but adding a talent like Wise would only give them the kind of depth that the Eagles showcased. Playing behind Aaron Donald and Dominique Easley, Wise could have been a huge addition to the defense. Ebukam did not really do much, Wise could have.
