Los Angeles Rams: Five free agent options to replace Trumaine Johnson
By Jason Reed
Johnathan Joseph
Perhaps the Los Angeles Rams want to go the experienced veteran route and bring in 12-year veteran and two time Pro Bowl cornerback Johnathan Joseph. Joseph would be a huge addition for such a young roster that is just now getting used to winning football games. Joseph knows what it takes to win in this league and is still a very solid cornerback.
At 34 years old when the season starts, Joseph certainly is a grizzled veteran but he is not past the point of concerning about his age. The Rams could easily lock Joseph down for two seasons, freeing him up at 36 years old to continue the pursuit of youth. Although many teams shy away from older players, the Rams can afford to do so.
Bringing Joseph in is especially important if the Rams do draft a cornerback in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Joseph can serve as the mentor to this young corner and help him transition into the NFL. That aspect of the game is overlooked, in my opinion, and Joseph could be a huge help.
Last season Joseph intercepted two passes, one was an 82-yard pick-six and deflected nine. With 47 total tackles, Joseph’s value is the same as Trumaine Johnson, if not slightly worse. Regardless, with a young corner, Joseph becomes crucial.
