3. Does Alex Verdugo get an Opening Day roster spot?

Adding to the hectic mess in left field is Alex Verdugo, who right now, has as good of a chance as anyone to start in left field. However, the four guys mentioned before are all ahead of Verdugo in the pecking order, at least right now.

Of course, as Spring Training goes along, it will become more apparent who is going to stay and who is going to go. If Pederson and Kemp continue to strike out, the Dodgers may simply cut Kemp and send Pederson down to AAA. Maybe they start Toles in AAA to get him back into form. And of course, Hernandez will play everywhere.

However, if all of those players play great in spring, well, it only complicates things. Including Hernandez, the Dodgers would have six outfielders; there is absolutely no reason to bring in a seventh making Verdugo the odd man out.

Of course, Verdugo does have immense trade value and the Dodgers could use him as the main trade chip to land a great pitcher such as Chris Archer. However, with the insane upcoming 2018 free agency and Yasiel Puig set to hit the market, I do not see that happening.

As it stands, I really have no idea what the Dodgers are going to do with the excess of outfielders. Unfortunately for Verdugo, it may result in a return to AAA to start the year.
