Lakers Rumors: Why trading Lonzo Ball is an acceptable reality
By Jason Reed
Lonzo Ball returned to action on Friday and the Los Angeles Lakers coasted to a 124-102 victory. However, Ball has not been able to escape Lakers rumors.
Let me preface the entire article with this: I really like Lonzo Ball. I graduated high school the same year as the kid and have been watching his highlight tapes since 11th grade. Heck, my coworker actually played with Ball when he was 10-12, he has pictures with Lonzo and LaVar Ball. I, by all means, am a huge Lonzo Ball fan.
I have been the first to defend him against his harshest critics and I truly do hope he carves out a long-standing career in LA that leads to much success — I really do. However, it has come to a point where trading Ball this off-season is not out of the realm of possibility, at least in my eyes.
The first big opinion I saw on this came from Jason McIntyre of the Big Lead. McIntyre proposed that the Los Angeles Lakers should consider a Lonzo Ball for Devin Booker swap. That would be fun, and interesting, but I do not necessarily think that is the exact move to make.
Nick Schwartz put together a great compilation of all of the NBA analysts that say LaVar may eventually push the Lakers to trade his son. While I do not think that a professional sports team would trade a player solely because of his father, it is an interesting sentiment, to say the least.
Don’t get me wrong, I do not think the Lakers will undoubtedly trade Ball and I really would be surprised if they did. However, I also think that this illusion that he is untradeable is a hoax. LA will show no mercy, especially if it leads to a better shot at the title. Here is why trading Lonzo Ball should be an acceptable reality.
