Dodgers: Biggest takeaways from the first weekend of Spring Training
By Jason Reed
MLB baseball is back as Spring Training games are now officially underway. With one weekend in the books, what have we learned about the Los Angeles Dodgers?
It has been a long three months and a half months without baseball. Dodger fans were stuck reminiscing about game seven of the World Series. Of course, the past is in the past and I would much rather look forward to the 2018 Los Angeles Dodgers than look back at the 2017 Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Dodgers are entering 2018 with only minor changes on the roster. Brandon Morrow and Yu Darvish were the biggest losses of the offseason. Andre Ethier may end up retiring and Adrian Gonzalez finds himself on the New York Mets. New faces on the Dodgers include Matt Kemp, Scott Alexander and Tom Koehler.
For the most part, the roster heading into 2018 seems to be clear. There are not many positional battles, as Dave Roberts loves to utilize platoons and different lineups. The overarching storyline of the Dodgers this season is simple: return to the World Series, and this time, win it.
However, Spring Training will give the fans an insight into what the expect this season. Will the Dodgers be as historically hot as they were last summer? Will they take a step back but still when the NL West? How will breakout players like Chris Taylor and Cody Bellinger perform?
All of those answers will form throughout the season, however, the foundation begins in Spring Training. With one weekend in the books, here are some of the most notable takeaways about the Los Angeles Dodgers.
