Three reasons why Julius Randle should start at center next season
By Keith Rivas
With tons of changes imminent for the Los Angeles Lakers this summer, one of them should be Julius Randle switching to playing as a center.
Julius Randle has quickly gone from being a very tradable player in the eyes of the front office to now being possibly their only hope at center in 2018. The power forward has his contract expiring at the end of this season, so in order to retain his services, it will take some willingness on the part of Magic Johnson to trust that Randle will come back stronger and better.
It seemed like this season was really going to be it for Julius Randle in purple and gold, but nothing ended up happening.
Things heated up when the Dallas Mavericks looked like a potential lock when the opportunity came to swap Randle for Nerlens Noel, but that never came to fruition.
I don’t think the Lakers are really complaining about that, though. The power forward has stepped up tremendously, but next season may have him singing a different tune from a different position.
What if the Lakers did something crazy and started him at center?
Hear me out before you just shoot the idea down, at least. With all of the things that Magic Johnson is considering to do this summer, going after a center in free agency isn’t his top priority, even though you could argue it should be.
With that being said, here are the three reasons that Julius Randle should be their solution at the five spot next year.
