Wilmer Font

Get it? Writing on the wall? His last name is Font! Okay, enough of my ridiculous play on words that probably failed to make anyone even crack a smile.

Chances are, though, that Font may have been on his way to the MLB roster in the first place. Font is on the Los Angeles Dodgers 40-man roster and has been a person of interest for LA. Font’s four innings pitched is the most thus far in Spring Training and he has not done a bad job in his appearances.

The 27-year-old right-hander has allowed just one hit in those four innings pitched; a solo-shot from Austin Hedges. Aside from that one hit, and one earned run, Font has struck out six batters and walked none. Yes, the sample size is small, but it is promising nonetheless.

Font made one short big league stint last season with the Dodgers. In three appearances Font threw for 3.2 innings, allowing seven earned runs in the process; not the best first impression to for Dodger fans.

However, his 3.48 ERA in 134.1 innings pitched in AAA last season showed promise, hence why the Dodgers have given Font the most workload thus far. If Font continues to succeed, he would have been a shoo-in for the roster regardless. However, with Koehler now sidelined, Font’s inclusion may be a no-brainer.
