Tim Locastro

Tim Locastro is an interesting player that may not be too familiar with the everyday Los Angeles Dodgers fan. If you follow the Dodgers minor league system, you definitely know who Locastro is. If you do not, then you may vaguely remember his name as he made one plate appearance last season in three games of work.

Locastro was utilized last season a pinch runner and nearly got a postseason roster spot for his baserunning abilities. While he ultimately did not receive that roster spot, Locastro will likely be called up to the majors in some capacity next season.

The speedy infielder/outfielder is on the Dodgers 40-man roster and a good Spring could set him up to be the first call-up if someone were to get hurt this season. Even if that is just as a running option late in games or a double-switch piece.

Locastro has a pretty good track record in the minor leagues for the Dodgers to go off of as well. Last season in split time in AA and AAA, Locastro hit .308 with 10 home runs, 40 RBIs and 34 stolen bases. Hence why he is on the 40-man roster.

However, what makes him the least likely to take this role is his right-handed hitting. The Dodgers use Chase Utley as a left-handed backup to neutralized the hole in Forsythe’s swing against fellow right-handers. Locastro, also being right-handed, would really need to excel against right-handers to take Chase Utley’s job.
