Max Muncy

I am a pretty big fan of Max Muncy and I would like to see him have some sort of role on the Los Angeles Dodgers at some point this season. Whether that is backing up Logan Forsythe, being a utility infielder or merely being an injury call-up, Muncy has played well in the minors and deserves a shot at the big leagues.

The problem being is that Muncy is currently not on the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 40-man roster and instead was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. A solid Spring Training can definitely throw his name into the 40-man roster hat, but if Locastro thrives as well, it only thickens the plot further.

However, what gives Muncy the edge over Locastro is his left-handed hitting. Locastro may be the first one of the two to get called up. With both of them being very versatile, Locastro would likely serve as a backup to Justin Turner or in the outfield. When Muncy eventually gets the call, it could primarily be at second base.

Like I said, Muncy’s performance in the minor leagues proves that he is ready. Yes, I understand that AAA ball is not the same as the major leagues. But, a .309 batting average in 109 games is pretty solid.

At the end of the day, Muncy must first prove that he is worthy of a 40-man roster spot before challenging Chase Utley for his job.
