LA Rams trade target: ILB Lawrence Timmons

Another area of need that has been created with this busy Los Angeles Rams off-season has been at inside linebacker. The team decided to part ways with linebacker Alec Ogletree, trading him to the New York Giants for draft picks. Mark Barron is the only significant name returning to the Rams with Connor Barwin set to hit free agency.

Realistically, the Rams’ best bet for a linebacker may be in free agency and/or the draft. NaVorro Bowman would be a huge free agent addition for the Rams, however, Los Angeles would need to pay Aaron Donald first.

In the draft, the Rams could utilize a first-round pick to pick up a solid inside linebacker. However, there is a significant gap at center that Los Angeles should first look to address. With their next pick not being until the third-round, relying solely on the draft is an unwise strategy.

Thus, if the Rams are surveying possible trade targets, Lawrence Timmons should become an option. Timmons would bring a much-needed veteran presence to the linebacking core, fixing perhaps the only gap left on defense.

Again, Timmons is set to hit the free agency market, acting as a one-year rental for the Rams to buy the team time to get a young linebacker next off-season.
