Jake Peter – 2B

  • Age: 24

  • Number of seasons in the minors: 4

  • Predicted call-up: First infield injury, or June of 2018, whichever comes first.

Jake Peter is the guy you call on when somebody gets hurt. He’s the understudy who has all of his lines memorized and is waiting in the wings. Jake Peter is ready for the major leagues.

Here’s the thing, and it’s a pretty important thing; the Dodgers tend to get injured. Over the last two seasons, they have sent more players to the DL than almost any other team. They are the perfect example of the consequences this game can hand out. LA players don’t get hurt because they trained in a dangerous manner, or because they tripped and fell on the steps of the dugout.

Like most players, they get hurt by pushing themselves too hard and playing the game the way it’s supposed to be played. Mike Trout didn’t try to hurt his finger by stealing second last season, it just happened.

Well, when it happens, whatever “it” turns out to be, Jake Peter will be ready to suit up. He enters 2018 with a minors-career average of .282, 24 homers, and an astounding  86 doubles.

Peter is expected to start the season with the Oklahoma City Dodgers, LA’s Triple-A affiliate, but I don’t expect him to be there long. His call could be coming as soon as April or May. His 3 spring training homers and 14 RBI’s seem to prove what I think we all know; Jake Peter could be on a flight to LA soon.

*NOTE* Justin Turner was hit by a pitch Monday night, breaking his left wrist in the process. Turner is set to miss at least a full month of time, leaving the door wide open for Peter. While the third base spot may go to Kyle Farmer, Peter will be in the discussion moving forward in Spring Training.
