The Los Angeles Lakers have multiple expiring contracts to deal with this offseason; including the expiring, one-year $18 million contract issued to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

The Los Angeles Lakers played it very smart prior to the 2017-2018 season. President of basketball operations, Magic Johnson, and general manager, Rob Pelinka, understood what was at stake for the 2018 offseason.

Multiple Lakers rumors have the team pursuing one or two superstars this offseason. Ranging from Paul George to LeBron James to now Kawhi Leonard, the speculation has been running rampant around the Lakers. That is what happens when a very successful franchise misses out on the playoffs for five consecutive seasons.

With all of this in mind, the Lakers covered their ground. While the team still needed to add pieces to help the progression of their young stars, they needed short-term commitments. Thus, the likes of Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, Isaiah Thomas and Brook Lopez became pivotal. They are all on expiring contracts.

However, now, the 2018 offseason does not look to be as illustrious as many previously assumed. The Lakers front office themselves have reportedly widened their outlook to next summer; no star move is guaranteed.

But the Lakers still have those expiring deals on the table. Caldwell-Pope’s being one of the most interesting. With Caldwell-Pope’s recent season in mind and the outlook of the team, here are the best three fits for the guard this offseason.
