Los Angeles Chargers: Big board for the 2018 NFL Draft
By Jason Reed
The Los Angeles Chargers are a few key pieces away from being legitimate contenders. With the 17th overall pick, the 2018 NFL Draft could be special.
The Los Angeles Chargers were many NFL analysts’ sleeper pick last season. And while the Bolts ultimately missed the playoffs due to a three-team tiebreaker that had not been used since 2010, the season was promising. The team bounced back from a 0-4 start by going 9-3 in the last 12 games of the season.
Los Angeles definitely has the talent to make a playoff run, especially with the AFC West completely in question. Philip Rivers is still doing Philip Rivers things and has proven that he can make any receiver look great.
With last year’s seventh overall pick, Mike Williams, fully healthy, the Chargers can finally fill their dream of having one of the deepest receiving cores in football.
The pass-rush is sensational. Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram form arguably the best set of edge rushers in football. The Chargers are not too shabby in the secondary, either. Casey Hayward is arguably a top-five corner, Desmond King was a breakout rookie and Jason Verrett has Pro Bowl potential when healthy.
Melvin Gordon is a great, shifty back, and the offensive line will be great with new signing Mike Pouncey and returning from injury Forrest Lamp. All the pieces are in place for the Chargers.
All the team really needs is a good showing in the 2018 NFL Draft and they should be favorites to win the AFC West. With draft day approaching, here is our Los Angeles Chargers big board for the 17th overall pick.
