Lamar Jackson, QB, Lousiville

Lamar Jackson is an extremely talented quarterback and is part of a top-tier group of passers in this year’s draft class. The 2016 Heisman Trophy winner would likely be a surefire top-10 pick in any other draft class. However, this year the draft class is so stacked that Jackson falls himself falling down the big board.

Walter Football has Jackson as the fifth-best quarterback in this year’s draft class. Last season, if he declared after winning the Heisman Trophy, he probably would have been the best quarterback in the draft class.

This bodes well for the Chargers, who should probably be looking for Philip Rivers’ successor sooner rather than later. Out of the quarterbacks in this draft class, Jackson has reportedly struck the Chargers’ interest as a guy that could sit behind Rivers for a few seasons and take over the starting role.

The common consensus would be that the Chargers would use the 17th overall pick on Jackson. However, if it went perfectly for the Chargers, Jackson would fall to the second-round where LA can scoop him up with the 48th overall pick.

This is not completely out of the realm of possibility, either, as Jackson’s NFL Draft & Combine Profile predict him going in either the first or second-round. While he is easily an elite talent, we often see quarterbacks like Jackson falling in the draft when other elite options are available.
